Meatheads Media Drops http://www.skprmedia.com/uncategorized/meatheads-media-drops/ Mon, 05 Nov 2012 16:39:36 +0000 http://www.skprmedia.com/?p=739 The first ever Meatheads restaurant opened in Chicago on September 24. Located in Roscoe Village, meatheads were lined up before the opening to be the first to eat the food. As part of the PR team, I had the wonderful opportunity to run around the city giving out samples to different news stations. Among them were ABC, NBC, Fox News, and B96 radio! We even got to go into one of the studios to see the set and meet some anchors.  The day was full of excitement, running around the city in the hectic traffic, and taking pictures at all of the studios with Meatheads apparel!

The 15th Annual Ferrari’s in the Loop Event 2012 http://www.skprmedia.com/uncategorized/the-15th-annual-ferraris-in-the-loop-event-2012/ Thu, 20 Sep 2012 22:12:32 +0000 http://www.skprmedia.com/?p=690 After starting my internship at SKPR Media only a short week ago, I was quickly given the amazing opportunity to assist with my first event. On Sunday September 9, the Italian Village and Ferrari Club of America teamed up to host the “15th Annual Ferrari’s in the Loop,” off West Monroe. With over 60 different Ferrari’s registered, gourmet food, and good people, it was an opportunity to chat with owners of the Ferrari’s, and food enthusiasts from around the city.

I felt slightly apprehensive when starting my first event, but it proved to be a great learning experience. I quicklydiscovered that not everything goes according to plan, and you have to be flexible and have the ability to think on your feet in any given situation. The event had a great turnout though, and it was more low key then I expected it to be.

During the event, I was in charge of taking names down for photo captions of the pictures that we took. I also helped to ensure that all media contacts present at the event were comfortable and able to get their own jobs done. It was a great opportunity to work with media employees such as those from The Sun Times.

The weather during the day was fantastic and it seemed to put everyone in a good mood. It didn’t hurt that the food was also amazing, and there were so many spectacular cars being showcased! Everyone I came in contact with was smart, sharp, and all around genuine. It was a great first event to be a part of and I look forward to working many more in the future.

A Minute with Matt: Operation Route 66 Event Raises Over $4,000! http://www.skprmedia.com/uncategorized/a-minute-with-matt-operation-route-66-event-raises-over-4000/ Tue, 15 May 2012 03:34:15 +0000 http://www.skprmedia.com/?p=640 In Chicago on April 19th, Operation Route 66 held their fundraising event Kick Start the Ride!  The event raised more than $4,000 for Middle East war vets and was a huge success.  We were thrilled to be a part of it!

Local photographers and founders of Gerber + Scarpelli photography are using their talents to help tell the story of Middle East war veterans on a project that they are embarking on in May called “Operation Route 66.” Kurt Gerber and son Nick Gerber are using their visual gifts to give a light to some of the forgotten war veterans of our generation. The duo founded 41 Degrees North Productions, as a nonprofit documentary firm to help others. To help fund the $140,000 for production and travel costs, the duo is hosted “Kick Start the Ride” a benefit to help get Operation Route 66 on the road.

The majestic Columbia Yacht Club, located off of Chicago’s scenic Lake Shore Drive, played host to an evening full of fun, prizes, live music, great food and drinks.  It was all hands on deck as over forty guests and veterans filled the dining room cabin of the historic MV Abegweit. The event featured a silent auction and several inspiring speeches from some true American heroes, veterans of foreign wars.

The mission of Operation Route 66 is to raise funds and awareness for veterans’ organizations benefitting American soldiers who have served in the wars in the Middle East. Professional photographers Kurt and Nick Gerber will embark on a motorcycle trip across the Western United States to collect stories and portraits of soldiers who have served to secure the safety and stability of the American people.

“Hearing the veterans speak in front of the room reaffirmed my commitment to this cause, said Kurt Gerber, Founder of Operation Route 66. “It was a great night and we were thrilled to see the outstanding show of support from people in the community.  I want to thank everyone who was in attendance and also those who couldn’t attend but still generously donated to our journey.”

The after party was held at Bull & Bear, 431 N. Wells Chicago, IL 60654.

Abc 7 covered the event and interviewed Kurt and Nick Gerber, the founders of Operation Route 66.

COSI Charity Poker Championship http://www.skprmedia.com/uncategorized/cosi-charity-poker-championship/ Wed, 21 Mar 2012 20:42:59 +0000 http://www.skprmedia.com/?p=537 One Step Programs 2012 Charity Poker Tournament Returns As A Big Win

Former One Step camper hits the jackpot!

More than 270 poker players placed their bets on an entertaining evening of poker, partying and FUNdraising at One Step Programs 2012 Charity Poker Tournament on March 1st, presented by Robert W. Baird & Co. to benefit Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI).  A crowd of more than 325 players and spectators filled the River East Art Center in Chicago to support Children’s Oncology Services.  The event raised more than $110,000 for the nonprofit that offers camp experiences and educational programs that allow children with cancer to just be kids.

Players competed for over $20,000 in prizes including the coveted grand prize: a seat to compete at the 2012 World Series of Poker main event in Las Vegas (a $10,000 value).  Dan Bernstein from WSCR “The Score” AM 670, a COSI board member, emceed the Texas Hold ‘Em competition.  In the end only one person beat the odds to take home the grand prize: Chad Lawson of Milwaukee.  In fact, Chad was a camper in 1986 at One Step Camp when he battled cancer. Chad will also return this summer as a camp counselor as a way to give back to the nonprofit!

“We made a bet that poker players have big hearts and they raised our expectations to another level,” said Stuart Lissner, event co-chair and board member of COSI. “This year, because of the poker event, we will be able to send more kids to One Step Camp programs.”

ABOUT CHILDREN’S ONCOLOGY SERVICE, INC. (COSI)

Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer. Tuition is set at a fraction of the actual cost of camp and is often partially or completely waived. For more information, please visit www.onestepcamp.org.
